yes and no. i live in an apartment so i can't do alot of the stuff i have posted about. at home i do MIDI tracking, guitars, bass, keyboards, sampling and vocals.

when i get to go to my parents house i record the drumset and percussion.

i use a presonus firepod, compaq laptop, m-audio axiom 49 Reason 3.0, Cubase VST 4, Wavelab 5, Recycle 2.1, and various drum modules.
and all of the plug ins that are available in the links above.

if some of the links become dead or unavailable PM me and i will send you the .rar file

Cool, I'll have to check this stuff out. I can't record very much with my kit since my parents will axe murder me if i bring a drum stick out of the basment so i really have to stick to recording drumz on my keyboard and vertuall drummerz which really limites tom fills, dynamics, and kinda the overall playing style but I get my recordings through pretty well. Being basically a guitar player that loves the drumz to and wanting to record some stuff with my kit, but i'm afraid my mic isn't good enough and up to par with my guitars and keyboard stuff since I record it all directly into the computer. and seening as though I can't plug an ludwig into the computer I have a sort of a problem... :P

audacity.. first on the list i think... seems to be very popular among bedroom studios. the only thing it does not support is MIDI. so you would not be able to plug in your roland kit via MIDI. many people are satisfied with it. i have never used it.

as far as cheaper DAWs (digital audio workstation) Cubase SE is $149.99 and you will find that alot of interfaces for your computer (Lexicon, Presonus, Alesis) come bundled with software to get you up and running quick.

from my experience you probably will not be satisfied with free software and your mic in on your computer forever. it might be difficult to save some $$ but to have a quality computer interface with supported software (meaning if you have problems you can call the company... ripped software does not offer this)

I will be once I get my computer up to the drum room. Thanks for posting these. I'll be trying some out once I get setup. I'm not trying to make a real recording, just for song writing purposes really.

DUDE! I got my Firepod finally (have yet to get it actually working) and I thought I'd d/l a few plug ins to mess around with once I get tracking. I planned on getting them all and after getting 36 I realized that I was only 10% of the way through the first link! Holy freakin crap that's a lot of plug ins.

Jackson, you are the man. Thanks a million for those links. I would say keep em coming but at this rate I won't get them all tested out until 2010. I bet I find everything I need and everything I didn't know I needed for free. Sweet.

Anyone know if most of those are 30 day trials? I can deal with a free and bare bones just want to know if they are time sensitive.

Exclamation Recording Perfect Drums

Hey all!

I didn't get to read all these posts, but I've been using VPT (Virtual Percussion Technology) from RET Percussion (electronic drums). They've got drum software like EZDrummer, BFD2, Superior Drummer 2.0, Addictive Drums, etc.

But, this is the only way I record. I only use Cubase SX3, but it really doesn't matter for the quality I already get with the software system.

Just thought I'd throw this out there!

Later guys and gals!

There's a sweet multi-track recorder called 'Reaper'. Very lightweight and capable, it's not strictly free but it won't cripple itself after 30 days. Lots of tracks, VST, MIDI & ASIO OK!

Awesome sticky! Thanks a ton, gonna try and DL protools now.

EDIT: Crap. Protools free doesn't work on anything higher than OS9 / Windows ME.

oh well, I'll hit up some of those other ones.
