Question Church Kit

I need help picking a good kit for our church. I play percussion (ie. congas, shakers, tambourine, etc.), but our church is looking into getting a real kit. Right now we have an electric kit and we want to make the switch. We aren't really sure what kit would be good. We want a reasonable 5 piece kit. Our church is rather small. Our sanctuary can seat about 300 people. Any recommendations on a brand?

There is no one brand thst is best for playing in church. I like Mapex, but that does not mean you should. More important than the drums are the heads and the tuning, assuming that the drums are at least decent. Pearl, Mapex, Tama, Pacific, Ludwig, and many others make mid-priced kits that would work fine. Go to a local store and check them out. Peace and goodwill.

In conjunction with what Mark said another factor is playing with dynamics! With an e-kit it's not as critical but now that you are opening up the drums and the volume at which you play is controlled by the drummer means they have to really be aware of how hard they are playing.

I'm guessing you'll need cymbals and stands as well?

If possible and I know budget's are tight right now I'd try to go with a mid level kit just so they sound nice and not like card board boxes. My church has an older Export series with power toms that just doesn't sound that good, I've been talking to our music minister about how much we could improve the sound with a newer kit, nothing super pricey something like a Yamaha Stage Custom. I really like the quality Yamaha puts out as well as their hardware.

Yamaha,Gretsch, tama, mapex all great kits that offer a mid range price. I'd probably look for a 10,12,14 or 10,12,16 tom setup.

Here's an early inception of my rig. While it does not live in a church..I do play it at some.

There is no "more suitable" church rig with respect to manufacturers.
