| Let me guess, you're right-handed? Really, with all those cymbals, you'd think one would even out their placement a little. Might help to increase your ambidexterity.

| Hey for the record, I don't use that many cymbals 99% of the time. But when you've got a nice rack and cymbals to play with, you can sometimes get carried away with yourself! A lot of them were just set up for experimentation, if you will - I usually use far less - my main setup as of late has been the following: 14" K top Hat 14" Sabian Will Calhoun Signature bottom 10" A Custom Splash 14" A Custom Fast Crash 15" A Custom Crash 17" A Custom Crash 18" K Custom Session Ride 20" Oriental China Trash Thats it, and because of space issues at some venues I usually won't even bring the china. Oh, and did I mention that I just got another new kit a few months ago? I know I haven't been around as much lately (using a roommates pc) but I got it back in March and it is actually one of my dream kits so I am extremely happy right now! I never thought I'd be able to afford these but after trading in my 81 Les Paul Custom towards them I was able to buy them. Was sad letting such a great guitar go, but I have 5 more and play drums more so... Anyway, it's a 5 piece Yamaha Oak Custom kit in gorgeous blue sparkle lacquer. The finish is amazing, so rich and deep! Sizes are 17x24 virgin kick (no tom mount!) 8x10, 9x12, rack toms and 14x14, 16x16 floor toms. Didn't come with a snare unfortunately, but I have 10 to choose from so it's no biggie... My "Blacrolite" gets most of the gigs, and my Slingerland 5.5x 14 Sound King copper shell or 5x14 Artist Maple serve as backups or good alternatives if the room happens to not agree with the first choice... Which, I might add, is really rare, it almost always sounds great - the Acrolite is a very versatile drum! Here's a couple of pics of the new kit:

| boo for ressurecting an old thread, and for having more kits than i do. my drum teacher just got the same kit in the same specs as yours. they are really nice but i'm not gonna lie; they don't hold a candle to my noble&cooley kit

yep, and it was a freaking steal. got it used but they are still in fantastic condition; the only flaws are some minor laquer blemishes but the bearing edges are pristine. 6 pc (no snare) for 1500 american. i emailed the company to ask for a quote with the same specs and new my kit would have cost over 4000. it wasn't the exact finish i wanted but when i heard the kit tuned up i forgot all about what it looked like. as long as my noble&cooley sounds the way it does right now, i wouldn't care if it was covered in poo. i'm one lucky SOB.

I would love to know how your teacher's kit sounds and what heads he's using if he switched them out yet - the stocks actually sounded really good on this kit, but the day I came back to buy them the store had just put Evan's EC2's on the toms, and they really brought the kit to life. These drums are LOUD and have really beautiful tone - I've heard some people speculate about them being harsh or too loud because oak is such a hard, dense, heavy wood, (huh huh, he said wood) but these drums are actually one of the nicest sounding kits I've ever heard. True, they are loud and have a lot of attack and plenty of decay, but they're very dynamic to my ears since you can easily control the decay on these drums depending on how hard you hit them. You can make them wisper or explode with ease. The floor toms are just thunderous, they almost sound like tympani drums in the right room/setting, especially when played with felt mallets. The kick is one of the punchiest, loudest kicks I've ever heard. That's what really sold me on this kit, I actually wasn't looking for another kit at all, nor did I plan to buy one anytime soon - I figured 2 were enough and I actually loved and was very satisfied with my Premiers and Pacifics. I only went to the store that day to buy a little bass practice amp, which, incidentally, I had just paid for, when of course I had to at least take a look in the drum department before I left the store - you know how that goes - lol. But I saw it from gleaming from across the showroom, and said out loud, "wow, nice finish", and the salesman said, "walk over there and hit that kick". BOOM. Solid, punchy, bright and DEEP. Just a low-frequency seismic thump - you could feel the shockwave in the floor many feet away - I swore they had internal mics or something at first and I actually looked for the wires. I'm not kidding either. I thought they might have been running it through the PA for the nearby electronic kits. They sounded that good and had that much presence to me. So it was love at first sight and I simply had to have them. If anyone wants to see the Oak Customs in action, search for Keith Carlock (Although I must admit, I heard that he uses a Maple Custom kick... MC's, I admit, are to die for, but the OC kick is just - wow. At least my 24 is - I admit the 22 didn't have as much depth and I think Keith likes a 20, so maybe the smaller shells just don't get enough bottom. These drums are - tight. You really have to lay into them to get them to be super loud. But when you do, cover your ears!). I don't want to get booed at again so I guess I shouldn't mention the Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz kit (16x18,14x14,8x12, minus snare) I just picked up for $200 in mint condition lol. j/k!
